The Legend of Guava A long time ago, there's a king who ruled a rich, prosperous island. He had all the things a king could ever ask for: the power, the wealth, and all the delicious foods one could only imagine. The king's name was King Barabas. King Barabas is a rude king and overweight, indulging himself to all the foods available, hesitant to share. And his castle is starting to become filthy. He would spend most of his time sitting and eating with his bare hands. As he eats, he drips food on the floor and smile mockingly at the people around him, specially his servants. People in the kingdom would approach with requests for his help, but he would always refuse. As he neglected his kingdom, people started to complain and starve. After some time, an old hunched-back woman showed up at the castle begging for food while the king was eating. The old lady asked for food as she was starving. "Go away! I don't have anything to give. Can't you see I'm eating?" said the king. "Please, my king, " said the old woman. "I'm asking for anything, anything you could give me as I am so hungry. Even a little piece of bread or fruit would do." "Get out at once! You disgust me," the king belittled the old beggar. The old woman stood up straight, casting aside her stooped posture. "I've heard much about you and how your kingdom is suffering." The tone of her voice had changed. It was no longer the voice of a weak, old woman. "I asked for help, and you shoved me away. You have a lot for yourself, but when I only asked for a little food, you belittled me. You are selfish. No one loves you and no one will remember you when you are gone!" And the beggar disappeared. After a few more days, the king slowly weakened and became sick. No one knows what's wrong with him. He got weaker and weaker and lost much weight. He looked older than his age. Soon after that, the king died. As unfortunate and unexpected as it was, no one cried and nobody showed up at the king's burial. He died alone. And where the king was buried, his people noticed a strange plant growing, a plant they had never seen before. The plant soon grew into a tree, which bore rounded fruits that turned yellowish when ripe. People also noticed that the fruit seemed to have a crown as it develops, which reminded them of their selfish, arrogant king. The flesh of the fruit tasted a bit sour, just like the sour personality of the king towards them. The people learned to eat the fruit, which helped them with starvation. And because the tree was from the grave of their King Barabas and it has crown just like their king, they named the tree after him: barabas, which in time they called bayabas. The fruit is still called, as to this day, bayabas. (Source : www//owlcation.com) 21. Based on the story where did people find the strange tree grow? A. at the gate of the graveyard B. on the King’s cemetery C. arund the Kingdom D. around the palace E. behind the castle

In this science experiment we will make a miniature bolt of lightning using a balloon, piece of wool and some metal. We will explore static electricity and what causes lightning. We will learn about electrons, atoms, positive and negative charges. What to do: 1. Blow up the balloons. 2. Turn off the lights in a room at night and get it as dark as possible. 3. Rub the balloon rapidly against a piece of wool or wool sweater several times. This will give the balloon a negative charge as electrons jump from the wool to the balloon. When rubbing the wool against the balloon we are creating static electricity and saving it up in the balloon. 4. Move the balloon close to something metal like a filing cabinet or a door knob. 5. Watch for a flash or spark that jumps from the balloon to the metal object just like lighting. Please note: The humidity in the air can affect static electricity. If the air is damp, such as during the winter, then this experiment may not work.
Adopted from: http://weirdsciencekids.com/MakeLightning.html (April 12, 2012) 27. Why is the experiment carried out? A. Lately, concerns have arisen that Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and its immediate surroundings are threatened to experience a clean water crisis by 2025. Clean water, which is produced by two private operators – PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and Aetra Air Jakarta – currently totals 18.7 m3 per second. However, by 2025, demand for clean water will reach 41.3 m3/second as the population of Jakarta is estimated to grow to 14.6 million people from 9.6 million currently (the unofficial figure is possibly much higher). It has been reported that city-owned property developer Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and city-owned developer Pembangunan Jaya will acquire a combined 100 percent stake in Palyja. If the Jakarta administration has a direct stake in the city water operators, it will increase public supervision on the local clean water industry. PAM Lyonnaise Jaya, which manages the clean water supply in the west side of Jakarta, is a private water operator that is partly controlled by Astra International through its subsidiary Astratel Nusantara. Palyja has been active in Jakarta for about 16 years. However, last year a law suit was filed demanding that the court will annul the agreement between city water operator PAM Jaya and Palyja and Aetra Air Jakarta (Aetra) claiming that public access to affordable clean water has been hindered. Based on information from the World Bank, Indonesia plans to achieve universal clean water access by 2019 but almost half of the population still do not have access to clean water at present. 31.

32.
What is predicted to happen in 2025? A. Public access to affordable clean water will be hundred. B. Indonesia to achieve universal clean water access. C. There will be more water supply operators. D. The demand for clean water will decrease. E. Jakarta will experience water crisis.

When a continental plate and an oceanic plate join or move toward each other, then volcanoes form on land near coastal areas. Because the oceanic plate is denser, it sinks beneath the surface. The extremely high temperatures and pressure melt the rock and turn it into hot floating magma. When the sea was rough, we sailed on a small lake near the sea instead. There were not many fish in the lake, but in the sea we caught a lot with a hook, line and small pieces of bread. It is the massive means of communication. Is there a strong argument which says that English will not give any benefit? Learning to speak English well may be the best way to improve our life. It seems all the people in the world have agreed to use English to talk to each other. About 1,500,000,000 people in the world speak English. While another 1,000,000,000 are still learning English. If we can communicate in English, we can contact people from all over the world. We can talk about our ideas and opinions on Internet discussion groups. We can chat with other i nteresting people to learn about their life and culture. If we can communicate in English, we can t ravel more easily. English is spoken in more than 100 countries. If we lost, we can ask directions or ask for help. Who knows, English will save our life somewhere someday. That is why we should make every effort possible to find somebody to speak with. Where can we find people who can speak English with us? We can find them at school, shopping mall, tourist destination, etc. Above all, don't be afraid to speak English. We must try to speak, even if we make mistakes. We cannot learn without mistakes. So, speak English as much as possible! (Adapted form http://annisa-saja.blogspot.co.id)
