"By: Robert Louis Stevenson" The main idea of the poem: The weather in England causes some problems to the children who have to follow a certain system in their life. The sun rises late in winter and sets late in summer. The children cannot enoy the beauty of nature because of weather conditions in England. Stanza (1)
!n winter ! get up at night #nd dress by yellow candle light. !n summer $uite the other way ! have to go to bed by day Paraphrase !n this stan%a the poet describes the weather in England. In winter, the sun doesn&t shine until it is late in the morning. So when the poet gets up in the morning it seems as if it is at night because of the dar'ness. The poet has to use a candle light (which is really bad) to get dressed. In summer, it is $uite the opposite the sun doesn&t set until late at night. So when the poet goes to bed it is still daylight. !t seems as if he goes to bed by day. Figures of Speech ontrasts:

!etaphor: “I have to go to bed by day” !n fact it is not by day but the poet wants to show us how early he goes to bed:

!n this stan%a the poet says it&s unfair to have to go to bed early when the s'y is clear and blue and everything around him is so beautiful instead of playing and having fun. Figures of Speech %lliteration:

In this poem, the poet is complaining here about having to get up early in winter when it is still dar' and having to go to bed early in summer instead of enoying the beautiful weather.
