ABSTRACT Background: Lead (Pb) is heavy metal that have toxic effect if accumulated in human body. Low blood lead level can interrupt hemoglobin biosynthesis and can make alteration on other hematology parameter. Aim: The aim of this research is to investigate the blood lead level of traffic police and its correlation to the hemoglobin level, hematocrit, and erythrocyte index (MCV, MCH, MCHC). Methode: This research is using cross-sectional methode include 38 traffic polices who had duty at the streets throughout Yogyakarta. Data was collected by quisioner, blood lead was analized by AAS ( Atomic Absorbtion Spectrophotometer ), and hemoglobin, hematocrit, and erythrocyte index used auto hematology analyser . Hypothesis testing was conducted by chi-square test . Result: The result showed that blood lead level, hemoglobin level, and MCHC of all subject was categorized as normal. 22 subject (57,9%) had increased hematocrit, 8 subject (21%) had low level of MCV, 2 subject (5,3%) had decrease MCH. There was no significant correlation between blood lead level and hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, age, leght of work, total exposure per day, and smoking habit (P>0,05). Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between blood lead level and hemoglobin, hematocrit, erythrocyte index (MCV, MCH, dan MCHC). Key Word: blood lead level, hemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, leght of work, total exposure per day, smoki ng habit, traffic police.
