3. "No pains, no gains".
4. "It never rains but it pours". Nunca llueve, si no diluvia. 5. "Two birds, one stone". 6. "And Bob's your uncle". "You are pulling my leg". "Make yourself at home". "It rings a bell". Por ejemplo: “That exam was a piece of cake!”
Por ejemplo: “I heard you are running your first marathon on Saturday! Break a leg!” Let the cat out of the bag “Soltar el gato de la bolsa” significa contar un secreto. Por ejemplo: “Jenny let the cat out of the bag about John’s surprise birthday party” (Jenny soltó el gato de la bolsa acerca de la fiesta sorpresa para el cupleaños de John) Hit the nail on the head Viene a ser una versión algo distinta de la expresión “darle en el clavo”. Por ejemplo: “You hit the nail on the head! That’s exactly what I meant to say” (¡Le has dado en el clavo! Por ejemplo: “Helen said she was planning on saving 1000$ in 1 week to go to Thailand… pigs might fly!” You can’t judge a book by its cover “No juzgues un libro por su tapa”. Por ejemplo: “Today I learnt I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover; I didn’t think I would like David because he dresses like a hippie, but he’s really nice” (Hoy aprendí a no juzgar un libro por su tapa; siempre pensé que no me caería bien David porque viste un poco hippie, pero es un sol) Bite off more than you can chew Cuando intentamos hacer demasiadas cosas al mismo tiempo y acabamos estresados. Por ejemplo: “I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew: playing basketball and dancing and painting is too much!”
Por ejemplo: “If you help me with math, I’ll help you with science. You scratch my back and I scratch yours” (Si tu me ayudas con las mates, yo te ayudo con ciencia. Si tu me rascas la espalda, yo te rasco la tuya) See eye to eye Lo decimos para explicar si alguien está o no en la misma onda que nosotros. Por ejemplo: “My business partner George and I don’t see eye to eye: he thinks short-term and I think long-term” (George, mi socio, y yo no vemos ojo a ojo: él piensa a corto plazo y yo a largo plazo) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Frases Hechas del Inglés Británico •
