Pair Work Activity: ‘Imagine an argument between a mother and her daughter’ Correction
1) Example The situation : ‘The daughter wants to go to disco the following Saturday with her friends’ Read the conversation using the appropriate tone: (2)’Are you joking?’ (4) ‘You are only 16! You’re much too young to go to disco!!’ (6) ‘I don’t care about Lucy! What if you meet dangerous men?? You never know!!’ (8) ‘YOU are naïve on the contrary! The discussion is over. No disco! Is that clear?!?
(1) ‘Mum, you know Saturday is my birthday… so… may I go to disco with Harriet and Lucy?’ (3) ‘Please Mum… please’ (5) ‘You’re wrong! Lucy often goes out on Saturdays!’ (7) ‘Why are you always so negative?’ (9) ‘This is really unfair!!!’
2) Make recommendations: After the conversation, the mother feels a bit guilty and finally allows her daughter to go out with her friends for her birthday. However, she is still worried so she gives her instructions just before she leaves (write 3 sentences using different expressions of obligation and / or interdiction). Ex: You mustn’t drink alcohol!
