Crocodiles are also being killed by local hunters. They are not killed for food, however, but for their skins, which are very valuable in world markets. This powerful predator is in danger of extinction because rich people want pretty bags and belts made from their skin. Despite the horror of this situation, it's hard to find much support for the crocodile because crocodile attacks on humans can, and do, occur. Nevertheless, the World Wildlife Fund, an international charity, has started to work with the local communities in Papua New Guinea to raise awareness of the crocodile's predicament predicament through events such as the Crocodile Crocodile Festival Festival on the Sepik River.
