I believe young children learn best through physical movement and interaction with their en vironment therefore, they must be provided with endless end less handson and movement opportunities and e!p eriences. To advance a child"s physical and intellectual competence, they must be involved in age appropriate gross motor and fine motor development activities. Through gross and fine motor development s#ill building, young children are mainly using their senses, of touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste, to start ma#ing sense of the world around them and giving meaning to the information being given. $ecause children first learn about the world through there senses I ma# e sure that each activity that they do focuses on there hearing,touching,smelling,tasting,and seeing. Such activities could include, listening to music, touching new materials li#e something hard, something soft or something gooey, smelling new stuff li#e scratch and sniffs, sniffs, and seeing some educational movies. movies. CS II a: %sing the Color &op activity a ctivity with toddlers is a great way to help them develop gross motor s#ills. This activity reflects my philosophy of supporting young children's physical as well as mental development because I #now that not only is there body growing but also there minds are as well. They should never (ust be sitting there doing nothing they should always be wor#ing on something that grows there brain and there muscles. That is why I li#e the color hop so much because it incorporates both gross motor and mental growth. CS II b: %sing pu))les are fun for babies and toddlers and are available in many ageappropriate forms. *oo# for chun#y peg pu))les with large, bright pictures, which are easier for children to put bac# together without frustration. *arge, colorful foam pu))les are another fun idea. +utting pu))les together builds spatial s#ills as the child matches a shape to its corresponding slot. +u))les also promote problemsolving s#ills as well. CS II c: %sing if your happy and you #now it with children encourages them to move freely and either sway, sway, bop or dance to the song. This encourages a creative representation through movement. llowing children to have fun and be creative with different art mediums will help to develop their self confidence and be comfortable within themselves. -hile at the same time, watching and appreciating their friends. CS II d: %sing baby sign language languag e with infants is a great way to promote communicationlanguage development in all children,including dual language learners. Children learning a new language will have a symbol to use when they cant figure out which language to use to describe an ob(ect. Studies have shown that children who use sign language as babies, develop verbal language earlier then children who do not use sign language. /
