There’s nothing to do. Mom: How about all those gadgets you collect? Broken toys, radios, cell phones. You love to tinker around with them. Sammie: But I don’t feel like it today. Maybe Sophie can think of a fun thing for me to do. Sammie knocks on Sophie’s door. There is no answer. Mom: Sophie has gone to the library. She’ll probably be bringing back more books to read. Sammie: At least she’s not bored. Mom: Well you don’t have to be bored either. Why don’t you go see if Pokey can play? Pokey enters left and sits down in chair. Mom exits right. Sammie walks left to Pokey lounging in a chair. Sammie: Hey Pokey. What are you doing? Pokey: What does it look like? I’m lounging in my chair. Relaxing! Sammie: I’m bored. Can you think of something fun for me to do? Pokey: Sure can! Try lying in my hammock. It’s great! Sammie: Ugh! That sounds even more boring!
Pokey: I don’t think it is. But if you do, why don’t you go see what Lily is doing? Pokey exits right with chair. Lily enters left with paper and crayons and sits down to start coloring. Sammie walks left to Lily. Sammie: Hey Lily. I’m so bored. Can you think of anything fun for me to do? Lily: You bet! You can help me color my pictures for my comic book! Sammie: That sounds so boring! Can’t you think of something else fun to do? Lily: Nope, I like painting. Why don’t you see what Goob is up to. Sammie: Hey Goob. What are you doing? Goob: Ants! I’m looking at ants! They are so cool! Sammie: That sounds boring. Can’t you think of something fun for me to do? Goob: I’m into ants right now. Jumper: I am practicing my dribbling so I can be a better player. Want to get in the game? Sammie: No. I don’t feel like playing basketball. Can’t you think of anything more fun for me to do? Jumper: Nope. Sure can’t. I am into basketball right now. Why don’t you go see what Allie is doing. Jumper exits right with basketball. Allie’s Granny enters left and sits in her rocking chair with a glass of ice tea. Sammie walks left to Allie’s Granny. Sammie: Hi Granny. Where’s Allie? Granny: She’s in bed with a sore throat. Sammie: Bummer. I’m bored. Do you want to play? Granny (laughing): (laughing): I can’t! I’m busy enjoying the lovely day in my rocking chair. Would you like to join me? Sammie: No thanks. Sammie: What do you mean? Granny: I mean, you can make your own fun. You don’t need others to make it happen. Just look around and think about it. You’ll find something!
Sammie looks around. Sees garbage cans lined up with an old radio sitting on top. Sammie: Do you want that old radio anymore? Granny: No. It’s broken. That’s why I’m throwing it away. Sammie: Can I have it? I love radios! Granny: Why sure, I can’t see why not. Granny exits right with ice tea and rocking chair. Sammie picks up radio and starts playing with it. Grabs tools and starts taking it apar apartt and and maki making ng chan change ges. s. Sammie: Hello Granny! Granny: Hello Sammie. What do you have ha ve here? Sammie: It’s your old radio! I fixed it and now I would like to give it to Allie so she has something to listen to while she is getting better. Granny: That was so sweet of you! I’m sure Allie will appreciate the effort you put into fixing the radio for her! Let’s go take it to her. Both exit right with radio.
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind “Have a Plan” Goob and the Bug-Collecting Kit Characters: Goob Jumper Sammy Allie Props: Sign for toy store Bug-collecting kit Table Two chairs Cups Pitcher Lemonade stand sign Notebook and pencil Yo-yo Squirt gun Bubblegum Popcorn Movie theater sign Goob is looking longingly at a bug-collecting kit in the window that he wants with his friend Jumper outside the toy store. Goob: Wow! I’ve wanted a bug-collecting kit like that for a loooooong time. But I don’t have four dollars. I need to earn it. I need to come up with a plan. Jumper: Why don’t we have a lemonade stand? We can make all kinds of money with a lemonade stand! Goob: That’s a great idea! Let me make out a list of all the things I need to make money for. Goob gets out a notebook and a pencil and starts to make a list. Jumper: I thought you needed money for the bug-collecting kit. Goob: Yes, but I also need money to buy a birthday gift for Allie, and I would like to save some money for a rainy day. Plus, I want to see s ee the new Pirates if the Caribbean movie. I need money for all of that.
Jumper: Well let’s get started! The pair set up a table, chairs, cups, a pitcher of lemonade, and a sign sign that that says says “Lemo “Lemonad nade e 50 cents cents per glass” glass” Sammy Sammy and Allie Allie enter from the left.
Sammy: Lemonade! It’s so hot! I’ll buy a glass! Allie: Yeah me too! I need something refreshing. Both hand Goob their money and take a glass. Both exit right with their lemonade. Stage hand walks across stage with sign that says, “Several hours later…” Goob: We’ve made twenty dollars! Jumper: That’s a lot of money. Why don’t we split s plit it in half? Goob: Sounds good to me. I know just what I am going to do with my money. Jumper: Me too! Both go to the toy store where they saw the bug collecting kit. Jumper: I want some popcorn, bubblegum, a squirt gun, and a yo-yo. Jumper picks out his items and is having fun with his new toys. Goob pulls out his list of items to buy. Goob: I just want my bug-collecting kit, and a doll for Allie’s birthday. Goob picks up his items and both walk left toward the movie theater sign. Goob: Hey! The Pirates of the Caribbean is playing! Do you want to do see it? Jumper (excited, then sad): Yeah! But, I don’t have any money I spent it all on my toys, and the yo-yo is already broken… Goob: Well, I have some money left over from what I had set aside to save. I have enough to pay for my movie and yours, and still have money to put into my savings. Jumper: You would spend your money on me? Wow! What a great friend. Goob: C’mon, let’s go see this movie. Both walk into the movie theater to the right.

Ms. Hoot is writing words on the board. Ms. Hoot: Here are your spelling words for Friday. Remember, you have four nights to study so make sure you are looking at your words each night. Sammy: There are only five words! I can do that. Goob: Those words are kind of hard. I’m going to have to study. Ms. Ms. Hoot Hoot ex exit its s stag stage e left left.. Poke Pokey y and and Samm Sammy y stan stand d up to leav leave e school with their backpacks. Sammy: Hey Pokey! Do you want to go to the park and play baseball after school? Pokey: I would love to, but I really need to study for my spelling test. Sammy: It’s not until Friday, you’ve got plenty of time! Pokey: I guess you’re right…

You want to go to the arcade after school today? They have a new racing game I want to play. Pokey: I should really study for my spelling test. I need to look at those words. I didn’t do it last night. Jumper: Those words are easy! It’s not until Friday anyway. Pokey: That’s true. Alright, we’ll go now and I’ll study tomorrow. Jumper and Pokey exit to the right. Stage hand walks across stage with sign that says “The next day…” Pokey walks onto stage from right with Allie and Lily. All three have their backpacks on. Lily: Hey Pokey! Allie and I are going to Dairy Queen for a blizzard. You want to come with us? Pokey: Awwww man! I love blizzards. But I really need to study for this spelling test. I only have two more nights to study. Allie: That test isn’t until Friday. You will have one more night to study if you go with us today. Those words are easy anyway! Pokey: I guess you are right. One night will be enough to get it done. All three exit to the right. Stage hand walks across stage with sign that says “Friday: TEST DAY!” Pokey walks onto stage from right with Sophie. Both have their backpacks on. Pokey looks sad. Sophie: Why do you look so upset Pokey? Pokey: I failed my spelling test. I kept meaning to study all week, but I got busy doing other things and I just didn’t have enough time last night to learn the words. Sophie: What did Ms. Hoot say? Pokey: She’s going to let me retake it on Monday, but these words are really hard for me to remember. I don’t know if I can learn them by then. Sophie: I will help you study this weekend!
