Attended by more than 500 supporters MPP was able to raise over $150,000 towards their goal o re orming marijuana laws. Bill Maher o HBO ame received the Public Face o Re orm Award rom MPP’s Executive Director Rob Kampia atop the amed grotto, being joined by host Joe Rogan o Fear Factor. Joe is also a very unny stand up comedian who delivered a great set rom the top o the grotto. He was later ollowed by the band Blues Traveler who entertained the crowd with some o their hit singles. This issue was rather interesting or me to work on. All the recipes that I made seemed to work out great or Medical Marijuana patients and just regular olks that don’t partake. f l e s r u o Y g n i t a

It started with the Canna Carrot Cake. We had company coming over and it just worked out that a double cake mix makes exactly 4 cups o batter. Split in 2 portions, add MJ to one and now you have treats or all your company.

So I continued to create things that everyone in the house would enjoy, as our kids get a little jealous o all the treats their dad gets. So Tropical Smoothies were created, then the Butterscotch Macadamia Nut Squares and the Strawberry Shortcakes. All o these recipes I made so anyone that was visiting could enjoy a wonder ul treat. I believe everyone who knows a little bit about cooking and can get a little creative can make treats or themselves, or check each and every issue o the Treating Yoursel Journal or some quick and simple recipes. Recipes from Treating Yourself K Quick and Simple Recipe Canna Carrot Cake Submitted by Chef Uni This recipe came about when we had company coming over or the evening and not everyone medicates, so I had to come up with a tasty treat or all. 1 Carrot Cake Mix (makes two 8 inch square cakes) 1 Can Instant Cream Cheese Icing Make the cake according to the package directions. The mix makes exactly 4 cups o batter, separate into 2 equal portions. Bake one cake plain and add 4 grams o ground MJ (you can use more or less) into the batter o the 2nd cake. Bake according to the package directions. Separate the icing into 2 equal portions. Ice the plain cake with the plain icing. With the other portion o icing, mix in 2 grams o ground MJ, and ice the medicated cake. This recipe was very easy to make, even though it took a little longer than 30 minutes to create, it was well received by all company.

Butterscotch Macadamia Nut Squares

1 ½ cups irmly packed brown sugar ½ cup Canna Butter or real butter and 2 tbsp kie ground bud (more or less to taste) 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 eggs 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt ½ cup nuts (your choice, I used Macadamia nuts)

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 13 X 9 inch pan. In large bowl, combine brown sugar and butter. Add vanilla and eggs, mixing well. Add lour, baking powder, salt and nuts (add kie or bud now, i using real butter) to sugar mixture; blend well. Spread in prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees F. or 15 – 20 minutes or until edges are light brown. (Do not over bake) Cool and Enjoy!!!!

Recipes from Treating Yourself Ki Strawberry Shortcake Submitted by Unicorn Biscuit Recipe 2 cups all purpose lour ¼ cup sugar 3 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt ½ cup Canna butter or Margarine with ground Marijuana (amount depends on individual) ¾ to 1 cup milk

Heat oven to 450 F. In large bowl, combine lour, baking powder, sugar and salt (and ground MJ i using margarine). A Schwab amily recipe – submitted by Yrekagrow Using ork or pastry blender cut in Canna You will need: butter into lour until consistency o 1 cup lour coarse meal. Add milk; stir with ork until mixture leaves the sides o a bowl and 1 cup “quick” oats 1/4 tsp baking soda salt orms so t, moist dough. Lightly press into a 9” X 11” non stick pan. Bake or3/4 cup brown sugar 8 – 12 minutes or until golden brown. ½ cup warmed chunky peanut butter 3/4 cup canna-oil or Remove rom pan and let cool on a rack. canna-butter Cut into squares. 1 Tbsp vanilla 1 Tbsp butter Whipped Cream Recipe Whip 2 – 3 cups o whipping cream with lavoring 1/4 tsp salt a couple grams or more o marijuana and

sugar to taste. Whip until sti peaks orm. And Cover and re rigerate. (This can be done 1 or the top: 3 Tbsp lour hour in advance to let the mixture cure). 1 and ½ cup jam, or preserves o your Strawberry Mixture choice (strawberry Slice 1 pint o resh strawberries. Mash used in picture) about 1 cup o sliced berries and mix with sugar (to taste), and mix with the remainPre-heat oven to 350 degrees, combine all the dry ingredients e ing berries. r (including brown sugar) and then mix in the canna-oil, vanilla, and T warmed peanut butter. Recipes from Treating Yourself K Tropical Canna Smoothies Submitted by Chef Uni For these smoothies I used Mango, Peaches, Kiwi, Strawberry and Banana. You can use whatever ruit you like though. Chop up ruit into smaller pieces and place in reezer till ready to use. In a blender mix ½ cup plain yogurt, ½ cup ruit juice (your choice), 1 – 1 ½ cups o rozen ruit and 2 grams o powered MJ. Blend till well mixed and rothy and serve. For olks that don’t like yogurt, I have made smoothies with vanilla ice cream in place o the yogurt. They turned out a little sweeter and creamier, but I have been told they taste just as good as the one made with yogurt. The taste testers say it gave them a relaxing, melt into your chair e ect. Smoothies make a nice summer drink or can be used as a meal replacement as they are quite illing.

I am sitting here trying to understand at what point did “they” assume that “they” knew more than God? How can they dare to try to replace the most high with their own ideals? For their god’s ideals are not my God’s ideals. They would have you believe that God is uncaring, warlike and cruel. Sending the young to die in their Holy War or Oil and the almighty dollar. They will tell you that their god needs money and power, and or you to crawl on your belly like a snake. Not just to their unholy god but to themselves. Their world is built upon prisons, ear, hatred, anger, prejudice and more ear. Their way is not working and cannot. For it is not sustainable into the uture. The God who created me is air and kind, believing that we are all equal and have the reedom to do anything as long as your HARM NO ONE or their property. A God that believes we can live without killings, prisons and wars. A God who shows me we can change the world with love and understanding. I wonder why anyone could turn his or her back to a world where we all get along. No slaves, no wars, no starvation. A world where we are united or the betterment o the whole, yet respect the rights o the individual. The right to be ree, truly ree rom the in ringements o others is a basic human right. A world where you may travel anywhere to rejoice with your brethren, ree o ear o any kind or any reason is what we must work together or. Freedom to be who you really are and what you can be. Respected by all as you respect them. This world is possible i we believe in it. I we believe in ourselves the most high and the most righteous things are possible. I we cannot do this then we are doomed to repeat the insanity that has become our way o li e by de ault. Lepptomania... Noon the next day was a trip indeed. Rain clouds threatened, but held o or the event held in a beauti ul park, built under the reeway. The Supreme Court ruled that in accepted state medical practices the Federal Government has NO AUTHORITY to inter ere. What the hell is going on? According to Wikipedia: “Under the law, a capable adult Oregon resident who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness by a physician may request in writing, rom his or her physician, a prescription or a lethal dose o medication or the purpose o ending the patient’s li e. The request must be con irmed by two witnesses, one o whom cannot be related to the patient, be entitled to any portion o the patient’s estate, be the patient’s physician, or be employed by a health care acility caring or the patient. A ter the request is made, another physician must examine the patient’s medical records and conirm the diagnosis. The patient must be determined to not su er rom a mental condition impairing judgment. I the request is authorized, the patient must wait at least i teen days and make a second oral request be ore the prescription may be written. The patient has a right to rescind the request at any time. The law protects doctors rom liability or providing a lethal prescription or a terminally ill, competent adult in compliance with the statute restrictions. Participation by physicians is voluntary. Gay Pride Revisited A year ago I went to the heart o the Medical Marijuana movement, San Francisco, Cali ornia. My home away rom fl home. Here as always I went right to Dennis Peron’s Castro se Cottage Bed & Break ast where we checked in and went to ur o work. Y The work we were doing was checking on the state’s g ul illment o Proposition 215, or any part thereo . The answer n i t was no. Here it is a year later, and sadly the answer is still no!! ae r I know I say this a lot, but how long will we put up with T this. When will we elect those rom among us, people who care about our wishes and us? It’s time to get rid o the 9 # politicians in power who tell us what our wishes are. e u s Anyway, this year Linda was able to go with me. So we s I set o wandering the Castro, ablaze with colors, sounds and people rom all over the world.

Lepptomania... Saturday was Lady’s Day at the park, with music and speakers. The day began with 600 Dykes on Bikes, marching rom the park to the Castro. The Castro itsel was jammed with tens o thousands o people, enjoying the many square blocks ull o vendors, entertainers and masses o people having a great time. On Sunday we went downtown to see the parade. It was as always color ul, to say the least. We waved and laughed at and with many riends. Several hundred thousand were there! I never saw a ight or a problem, it was a weekend o love. But that’s not surprising as San Francisco has always been the City o Love. Why is it that we can all get along so well at times like these, when we mingle and talk, and learn about each other. But when we turn around we are killing each other. This must stop. The killings, hating, racism, these things are what the Feds want us to believe are a necessary part o li e. Another war? No big deal – BULLSHIT! Let’s have bigger parties and more o them that unite the people not tear them apart. Hope to see you here next year. Femi Kuti Human rights activist and A robeat pioneer rom Lagos, Nigeria, Femi Kuti is world amous or his political stand on issues in A rica and the world. It is not surprising or he is the son o the one and only FELA. The man who did more than anyone to stop the madness in A rica. Fela was arrested many times, beaten; his amily beaten, homes burnt down. Fela was doing rom the outside what Nelson Mandela was doing rom inside a jail cell. I was honored to be compared to those two heros. It was then that I ound that A robeat was awesome. Fela was the God ather o A robeat; Femi has brought it to the people with his music and his message. Since his ather passed away in ’97, Femi has worked to bring this to the world. He has become the undisputed King o A robeat. Femi’s shows are o the hook. The Sundance Channel has been airing the special “Femi Kuti Live at the Shrine,” which was ilmed at a spiritual gathering place or the people in Nigeria. Check it out! I had hoped to speak with this great man, but we were only able to take these photos due to error. However, I believe that when Femi Kuti is in Cali ornia again I will get to speak with him. The show began with the drums and bass hopping’ and steady, then out came the horn players with a little dance into f l their places. Next, three o the e most beauti ul women dancers I s r have ever seen appeared on stage. u o How they danced the night away I Y don’t know, they never stopped! g n Next, Femi himsel came on stage i t in a hush. There was a thunder as a he bent to pick up his horn, and e r then his songs told the stories o T the li e and death struggle that 9 we all ace. One cannot hear the # e words and not be touched. But u s with Femi, in some ways the words Is don’t matter. For when you hear the music you start to eel it. And ~ when that happens, Femi has won. Because now you are hooked, and 1 like a ish you can’t spit out the

Lepptomania. Sean Lennon

While laying in my room watching John Lennon’s Imagine when Craig came in and told me we had received permission to do an article on Sean Lennon, and Ru us Wainwright. Sean was the opening act at the nearby Santa Rosa Wells Fargo Per orming Arts Center ( ormerly the Luther Burbank Center). Just as we were getting ready to leave, Linda’s Doctor called with the news that her cancer had gotten much worse. Wanting to stay home and be with her mysel , she would have none o it. I had a job to do and do it I must, so o we went. Having seen many per ormances here we were indeed eager to attend, as the sta and management are great, and the sound is the best in any small venue anywhere. I became somewhat melancholy as I thought o Linda, and I became lost in a dream. r T What i his dad was alive? Would they have played together? I remember seeing Ringo Starr and his son playing together. It was one o my avorite nights. As Sean played I remembered the dreams o his ather, m 9 and so many others. A world o peace, love and understanding. I pray some day this will come true. # e u Sean’s music is beauti ul. So is his voice. But his work as lead guitarist is over the top. s s I As he inished, my heart was light and once again ull o hope. ...For the reason we were here was to about to appear! From the moment he strutted onto the stage there was no doubt who the star was. Ru us is delight ul, charming and beauti ul. He is precious, precocious, witty and warm. He lulls you into a scene o complacency, then hits you with “America” telling you o the wrongs in this country. His is a voice which must be heard. The show is an interesting combination o a lounge act combined with rock show. And Ru us is in charge every second. He is electri ying as he per orms hit a ter hit. We were in absolute awe o his talent and energy and charm as we drove home that night. I knew there was a new Diva in town. And based on the show I saw, the Diva will be at the top or a long, long time. Ru us, thanks or being who you are and or being proud o it.
